Swimming in the ocean, stroll along the beach, laying in the sun….Pure bliss. What could be better than that? Not much else.
Growing up in Baltimore, MD, we were a 2 ½ hour drive away from Ocean City, MD. I actually never got the chance to enjoy the beach as a child. My mother complained that she used to burn sitting on the beach when she a child, and my father complained that it was too far away. Instead of beach vacations, we went on other family vacations every summer. We visited destinations such as California, Niagara Falls, Virginia, Orlando, Israel, and lots of others I don’t even remember.
Now, however, living in Long Island, New York, I am only a short 20 minute drive away from Atlantic Beach. For the last 14 summers, while living in New York, I have enjoyed my own “vacation” every summer so close to home.
I love being able to run on the boardwalk, and especially to relax and lay in the sun. I now have 3 daughters of my own that I can share this wonderful experience with. We belong to a beach club in Atlantic beach where they can play on the swings, swim in the large olympic sized pool, boogie board and catch some waves, and dig in the sand. Every summer at the beach is another summer-long family vacation and I love every minute of if!
